Overview
xcodeproj-mcp-server by giginet is an MCP server for editing Xcode project files programmatically. It uses the tuist/xcodeproj library and the MCP swift-sdk, so AI assistants can create projects, manage targets and files, and change build settings without opening Xcode. It runs as a container image.
Features
- Creates new Xcode projects with custom settings
- Manages targets, files and build configurations
- Inspects groups and project hierarchy
- Modifies build settings
- Adds system frameworks, libraries and target dependencies
- Adds newly created Swift files to the right targets
Requirements
- macOS
- A container runtime: Apple's container (recommended, needs Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later) or Docker
Install
Start Apple's container service and pull the image
container system start container image pull ghcr.io/giginet/xcodeproj-mcp-server:latestAdd it to Claude Code
claude mcp add xcodeproj -- container run --rm -i -v '${CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR:-.}:/workspace' ghcr.io/giginet/xcodeproj-mcp-server:latest /workspace
Example
After your agent creates a new Swift file, it calls the server to add that file to the app target so the project builds.
