Overview

Xcode Instruments Trace Analyzer is a local MCP server that records and analyses Instruments traces for you. It can attach to a running app, record a trace, open it in Instruments and report which of your own code is responsible for slowdowns. It also compares traces to catch regressions.

Features

  • Automatic bottleneck detection with impact estimates
  • Records a trace from a running or launched app in one call
  • Detects Memory, Network, Energy, Allocations and Leaks data
  • Hang-focused workflow that ties samples to your app's code
  • Compares a baseline trace with a current one
  • Bundled xctrace-profiler skill for clients that support skills

Requirements

  • macOS with Xcode (xcrun xctrace)
  • Node.js (runs through npx)

Install

  1. Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport stdio --scope user xctrace-analyzer -- npx -y @xctrace-analyzer/mcp-server@latest
  2. Codex CLI

    codex mcp add xctrace-analyzer -- npx -y @xctrace-analyzer/mcp-server@latest

Example

Ask: "Profile this app for hangs and tell me which of my code is responsible."
